COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ten South Carolinian communities are set to benefit from over $10.5 million in total funding being injected into local public improvement projects. The State Department of Commerce announced the awards, which are geared towards commonly neglected areas of infrastructure and revitalization.
These crucial funds come from the South Carolina Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, a scheme that aims to boost economic opportunities and meet restructuring needs within communities.
Harry M. Lightsey III, Secretary of Commerce, underlined the importance of the CDBG program, stating, “the CDBG program creates infrastructure and revitalization opportunities in communities that may otherwise have limited access to funding.” He further stressed the scheme’s importance in the ongoing growth of South Carolina as a popular destination for businesses and citizens.
Of the ten communities slated to receive the grants, the following three areas lie within Midlands:
Outside of Midlands, the funds were allocated as follows:
According to officials, recipient governments are mandated to provide a measure of co-funding. They are required to match at least 10% in funding to ensure the completion of these projects.
This state funding awards represent a significant step towards improving water infrastructure in various South Carolinian towns. As a state, South Carolina is striving to keep up with the growing demands of its increasingly vibrant communities. With the injection of funds for water infrastructure, the estimated quality of life for residents across the state is expected to see a considerable boost.
