Exciting 5K Fundraising Event in South Carolina for Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is here, and scads of folks in South Carolina are getting ready to shine a light on an important cause: brain injuries. This month is officially recognized as Brain Injury Awareness Month, and the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina (BIASC) is embracing the opportunity to spread awareness and support.

What is BIASC?

Established back in 1998, BIASC has been a champion for individuals impacted by brain injuries. The organization works closely with professional caregivers to improve public services and ensure that those affected have access to the support they need. With a network of 11 support groups across the state, BIASC is dedicated to providing resources, education, and advocacy for individuals affected by these injuries.

Raising Awareness and Funds

One of the ways BIASC plans to engage the community this month is through a lively weeklong 5K Walk, Run, and Roll event happening from March 23 to March 29. This event is not only about getting active; it’s also about bringing attention to the challenges faced by those living with brain injuries. Participants can share their experiences on social media, making it a fun and interactive way to spread the word about brain injury awareness.

For those interested in participating, registration is available at www.biaofsc.com. Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt to celebrate their involvement. The excitement kicks off with a special kickoff event on March 23 at Bierkeller Columbia at 2:30 p.m. This festive gathering will include a group walk and a fun reception featuring music from DJ Preach Jacobs, whose playlist highlights tunes from brain injury survivors.

Registration and Goals

Joining in the festivities does come at a price—participants are asked to register for $45, which includes access to the reception. So far, the fundraising efforts have brought in an impressive $6,825, edging closer to the organization’s goal of $10,000. Every bit of support counts, and the money raised will go a long way in assisting those who are uninsured or underinsured navigate the often challenging waters of recovery and rehabilitation.

Continued Support

Even after the 5K concludes, BIASC remains committed to its mission of advocacy and education. Throughout the year, the organization offers resources like a free daily hotline at 1-877-TBI-FACT for individuals seeking help or information about brain injuries. They are also prepping for their annual conference scheduled for August 1 at the Cooperative Conference Center in Columbia, which promises to be a great opportunity for learning and connection.
