Newberry, South Carolina Remembers Johnnie James Hiller

Newberry, South Carolina, is coming together to remember a beloved member of the community, Mr. Johnnie James Hiller, who sadly passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born to the late David Benjamin Hiller and Julia Mae Saddler Hiller, Johnnie’s life was filled with love, resilience, and a commitment to his faith and family.

A Life Well-Lived

Mr. Hiller grew up in Newberry and remained devoted to his community throughout his life. He graduated from Newberry High School, where he made many cherished memories with friends and classmates. His commitment to his faith was evident as he was an active member of Trinity AME Church and also attended New Covenant Christian Center.

Johnnie’s life was also marked by his close-knit family. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn Virginia Johnson, and daughter, Juliet Nicole Hiller, both of whom he cherished dearly. His siblings, including Eula Bea Hiller, David Frank Hiller, and James Joseph Hiller, also left a profound impact on his life. The love he had for them will forever be remembered.

Family and Legacy

Johnnie is survived by his daughters, Tina Renee’ Turner from Gaylord, Michigan, and Carol Mishelle Johnson of Greenwood, SC. His legacy now continues through them and his beloved grandson, Channing Lucas Johnson.

The Hiller family, known for their strength and unity, also includes his sisters: Mamie Louse Gary, Minnie Lee Swittenburg, Tassie Mae Hiller, and Gladys Oxner, all residing in Newberry, along with Yvonne Phelps from Columbia, SC. They, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends, are mourning his loss while also celebrating his incredible life. The list of loved ones left behind includes Robert Hiller, Bobby Hiller, Serena Hiller Pitts, and many more who each have their own cherished memories of Johnnie.

A Celebration of Life

The community will gather to honor Johnnie’s memory on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel will host the Celebration of Life Service, offering an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share stories, and support one another during this difficult time. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the Trinity AME Church cemetery, a place that held significant meaning to him and his family.
