Exciting Week Ahead for Arlington High School Sports

Arlington, VA – This upcoming week is filled with excitement for local high school sports as Arlington teams head into a variety of playoff events. Notably, there will be no football games on Friday night (Nov. 1) due to the no-play date established for Fairfax County schools to observe the Diwali Hindu festival. Instead, Arlington public-school teams will face Fairfax teams in football contests scheduled for Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2).

This week’s lineup features a range of significant events, including district, conference, and regional playoffs in volleyball, field hockey, and cross-country.

In boys soccer, the action kicks off with Woodberry Forest visiting Bishop O’Connell at 3:30 p.m. On the ice, Washington-Liberty will take on West Springfield at the Prince William Ice Center, starting at 9:15 p.m.

Saturday’s football games will include:

  • Bishop O’Connell at Bishop Ireton at noon
  • Wakefield at McLean at 1 p.m.
  • Washington-Liberty at Langley at 4 p.m.
  • Marshall at Yorktown at 5 p.m.

Field hockey fans can look forward to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference final scheduled for 5 p.m. at Catholic University. Additionally, the girls and boys volleyball finals will take place at the same venue, beginning at 6 p.m.

Other key matches this week include:

  • Girls Soccer – St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes at Bishop O’Connell, 3 p.m. (State playoff match)
  • Boys Soccer – Washington Catholic Athletic Conference final at noon at Catholic University
  • Field Hockey – Washington-Liberty at Oakton at 7 p.m. (6D North Region semifinal)
  • Cross Country – Washington-Liberty and Yorktown competing at the 6D North Region championship meet at Burke Lake Park, 2 p.m.
  • O’Connell competing in the girls and boys private school state meet at 10 a.m. at Panorama Farms near Charlottesville.
