The event took place at the Central United Methodist Church, turning the venue into a lively celebration of hard work, dedication, and excellence among student-athletes from local high schools and colleges.

As community members gathered to applaud these outstanding athletes, an inspiring guest speaker took the stage. Joe Walker, a seasoned educator and coach with an impressive 41 years of experience in South Carolina, shared valuable insights. His emphasis on the significance of decision-making resonated with everyone in the room, shedding light on how the choices made during the teenage years can shape their futures. It was a timely reminder for those young athletes as they navigate their paths both on and off the field.

A Star Player Emerges

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the recognition of exceptional talent. This year’s 2024 Donnie Shell Award for Player of the Year went to the amazing Jemarian Dewalt of Mid-Carolina High School. Dewalt’s dedication to the game and phenomenal skills truly set him apart from the competition, making him a well-deserved recipient of this prestigious award.

The Touchdown Club also unveiled the Newberry County Touchdown Club All-County Team, which features a lineup of outstanding athletes who have left their mark this past season. Recognized players included:
