Farmer to serve as SCEDA President

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA) has appointed Rick Farmer, currently serving as Newberry County’s Economic Development Director, as its incoming President for 2024-2025. The announcement of officers and the board of directors was made during the annual conference in Myrtle Beach.

An Honor to Serve

Upon the announcement, Farmer expressed his gratitude and excitement at the opportunity. “I am honored to serve as President and work alongside such dedicated professionals in advancing economic development initiatives across the state,” he said. Farmer also added that he is looking forward to collaborating with the esteemed board of directors to continue fostering the personal and professional growth of SCEDA members.

Continuing Growth and Development

“I am excited to ensure we are all equipped with the skills needed to drive impactful change, for the betterment of all citizens of South Carolina,” stated Farmer. This statement indicates that one of his key objectives as President will be to cultivate growth and development, pushing for a progressive and prosperous South Carolina.

The 2024-2025 SCEDA Officers and Board of Directors

Besides Farmer as President, the other roles within the board will be served by:

  • Vice President – Tavia CM Gaddy, Greenville Area Development Corporation
  • Treasurer – John Truluck, Dorchester County Economic Development
  • Secretary – Melvin C. Williams, Terracon Consultants, Inc.
  • Past President – Sandy Steele, SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance

Moreover, the newly elected incoming directors include Sam Moses of Parker Poe, Erin Cole of Samet Corporation, and Jamie Frost from Alliance Consulting Engineers, Inc.

Ex-Officio Members

The Ex-Officio members of the board include Hugh Weathers, Commissioner, SC Department of Agriculture; Dr. Tim Hardee, President, S.C. Technical College System; Mr. Harry M. Lightsey III, Secretary, SC Department of Commerce; Mr. Duane Parrish, Director, SC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism; and Ms. Barbara Melvin, President and CEO, SC State Ports Authority.
