Newberry Welcomes New Assistant Principal at Middle School
NEWBERRY — Exciting changes are coming to Newberry Middle School with the recent announcement of Jennifer Brown as the new Assistant Principal. Brown has a strong background in education, having served as a teacher for seven years in the School District of Newberry County. She is very much a local, being a graduate of Whitmire Community School and later earning her degree in Business Administration from USC Upstate. Brown also holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Outstanding Achievements
Throughout her teaching career, Brown has received numerous accolades. She was named the 2022-23 Newberry Middle School Teacher of the Year and recognized as the WLTX Teacher of the Week for the 2023-24 school year. Additionally, she earned the title of Distinguished Literacy Teacher of the Year in 2022-2023. Her accomplishments in the educational community underscore her commitment to student success and effective teaching.
Leadership Roles
Brown has held several leadership positions within Newberry Middle School. She has been the related arts team leader and served as the SDNC Computer Science Lead Teacher for the district. Furthermore, she led the Newberry Middle School Student Ambassadors and was the NMS Tiger News Lead Teacher. She also participated in the NMS Leadership Academy and took on the role of Lead Administrator during the summer school programs for the past two years.
New Responsibilities
In her new role as Assistant Principal, Brown will be responsible for a variety of tasks including overseeing attendance, managing excessive tardies, and directing the Junior Beta Club. Additionally, she will serve as the Testing Coordinator and assist with WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment), coordinate textbooks, and play a key role in awards celebrations. Brown will also be the 504 Coordinator and the Eighth Grade Administrator, further showcasing her extensive responsibilities within the school administration.
A Commitment to Education
Meanwhile, Brown expressed her enthusiasm about continuing her journey in education. “I am humbled and happy to continue serving stakeholders of the School District of Newberry County,” she said. “I am excited to start year eight within the same district and same school that I began my educational career.” Brown’s passion for education remains strong even as she steps into this new role, as she emphasized, “Whatever it takes, our kids are worth it!” This aligns closely with the school’s motto, highlighting the shared commitment to supporting students.
