Newberry Gears Up for 26th Season at the Opera House

NEWBERRY — The Newberry Opera House is excited to announce that it is ready to kick off its 26th season with a series of improvements and a fresh lineup of performances. After years of wear and tear, the historic venue is getting a much-needed face-lift, making it an even more welcoming space for everyone in the community.

Exciting Upgrades Ahead

Executive Director Anne Pinckney Smith shared that the upcoming changes are less about a complete renovation and more about a refreshing upgrade. “You didn’t really have big, motorized wheelchairs 25 years ago, so we wanted to make it more easily maneuverable— bathrooms that are ADA height, really just making it a better experience,” she explained.

These upgrades will allow the Opera House to better serve guests of all abilities. The enhancements will not only improve accessibility but also feature state-of-the-art upgrades to sound and lighting, amplifying the viewing experience for patrons.

A Show for Everyone

The upcoming season will strive to connect the past with the present by featuring a variety of performers that cater to all age groups. “We try to nod to the past with acts like Chubby Checker and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. We want to encourage the new, younger generation to come. It’s such an intimate experience, so we want to blend the old with the new and freshen it up,” said Smith.

In addition to the performances, visitors are encouraged to explore the vibrant downtown area of Newberry. “Before or after coming to a show at the Opera House, patrons can add to their experience by enjoying the rest of downtown Newberry’s businesses and maybe see performers walking the streets,” Smith noted. It promises to be a unique experience for all who attend.

Preview Party and Tours

Mark your calendars! On September 13, the Opera House will host a preview party starting at 6 p.m. This event will offer the community its first look at all the hard work that has taken place over the last couple of months. Tickets can be purchased through the Newberry Opera House website, and attendees will also have the opportunity to take guided tours on the following day, September 14.

The Opera House will then resume its normal hours of operation, welcoming visitors on Tuesday through Saturday. This new season looks set to deliver a wide variety of performances that will captivate different audiences.
