De Pere High School Sports Roundup
De Pere was buzzing with excitement this week as local high school teams closed out regional competitions and continued to make strides toward sectionals in various sports.
In golf, Bay Port claimed the regional title with a solid team score of 359, finally securing their spot at the sectional meet. Just behind them, De Pere finished with a score of 361. The competitors from Green Bay Preble Co-op came in third with a score of 393, and Notre Dame secured fourth place with 408, all moving on to the next level. Notably, three golfers tied for individual medals, shooting an impressive 86: Payton Dudra from Bay Port, Lucy Kim from De Pere, and Emma Cunningham from Green Bay Preble Co-op.
The sectional golf meet is scheduled for October 8 at Thornberry Creek at Oneida in Hobart, and it promises more exciting competition.
Switching over to the volleyball court, Luxemburg-Casco secured a convincing victory against Fox Valley Lutheran, winning in straight sets: 27-25, 25-14, and 25-16. Coach Jeff Frey praised his team’s resolve after a recent close match. Leading the Spartans were Aubrey Frey with 15 kills and 15 digs, along with Alayna Deprez, who contributed 35 assists and 15 digs.
Meanwhile, NEW Lutheran also had a successful game, defeating the Pioneers 25-17, 26-24, 25-22, with standout performances from Emma Laatsch, who recorded 19 digs and 11 kills.
In cross-country action, the Appleton North girls team had a strong performance, placing first overall in their meet. Top finishers from the area include Eva Busch with a time of 18:18.2, closely followed by Sophia Scherwinski.
Overall, it was a thrilling week in De Pere. From regional golf championships to volleyball domination, the local student-athletes have shown grit and determination as they aim for success in their respective sports.
