Community Safety and Vigilance

News Summary

Florence faced a tense situation when a 1-year-old girl was reported abducted, triggering an Amber Alert. Fortunately, the child was found safe just hours later. The alleged abductor has been arrested with multiple charges. The communityโ€™s quick response highlighted the importance of vigilance and care.

Amber Alert Canceled After 1-Year-Old Abducted in Florence, Found Safe

Florence has found itself at the center of a frightening but ultimately heartwarming story involving a 1-year-old girl named Dylan Saige Cooper. In a chilling series of events early on Friday morning, Cooper was the victim of an alleged abduction, but thankfully, she was soon discovered safe and sound.

Early Morning Scare

The drama began around 6:50 a.m. when a witness spotted Cooper all alone outside a house on Cale Yarborough Highway in Timmonsville, a small town located within Florence County. It remains unclear just how long the little girl had been abandoned before she was found, but she was left outside without any adults around her. How absolutely terrifying!

A Quick Response

Thanks to a speedy reaction from law enforcement, the situation took a positive turn. Shortly before 6 a.m., the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) activated an Amber Alert for the child, which is a signal that grabs everyoneโ€™s attention when a child is believed to be in danger. Just a short hour and a half later, by 7:30 a.m., the alert was canceled after Cooper was located. What a relief!

The Suspect

The alleged abductor, **32-year-old Macie Eaddy**, was arrested around 7 a.m. on the same day. Eaddy and Cooper were last seen together at a Roses store on South Irby Street in Florence the night before, around 6 p.m. on Thursday. Eaddy had reportedly offered to keep an eye on Cooper while her mother, Lindsey Britt, continued shopping. Unfortunately, after finishing her shopping, Britt discovered that Eaddy had taken off with her child.

What Happened Next?

Authorities gather that Eaddy may have left the child at a residence later that same evening, around 8:30 p.m. Just imagine the range of emotions that must have run through Britt as she realized what had happened! Luckily, Cooper was found in good health, although she was taken to a hospital for a precautionary check-up. Better safe than sorry, right?

A Neighborโ€™s Kindness

An incredible woman named Tonya Dennis played a heroic role in this unfolding tale. When she discovered Cooper safely nestled in a car seat in her driveway, she didnโ€™t hesitate to step in and care for the little girl until help arrived. Imagine being that neighbor who becomes a critical part of a story like this!

Charges Filed

In the aftermath of the events, Macie Eaddy was charged with kidnapping, driving with a suspended license, possession of a small amount of meth or cocaine, and she also had a fugitive hold from out of state. Talk about a hefty list! Additionally, itโ€™s reported that more charges may come from the Florence County Sheriffโ€™s Office as the investigation continues.

The Road Ahead

Eaddy was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center following her arrest, and itโ€™s clear that this will be a case to keep an eye on. Law enforcement has promised to release further information, so the community can stay updated on this troubling but ultimately uplifting situation.

Community Safety

In times like these, itโ€™s imperative for communities to stay informed and vigilant. The swift actions of both the public and law enforcement in Florence showcased how crucial it is to look out for one another. Hereโ€™s hoping for brighter days ahead for little Cooper and her family!
