This week in Arlington, local high school sports teams have a less hectic schedule, but there are still some exciting games and tournaments happening. As the fall sports season winds down, three teams will be competing in postseason games, along with the start of some winter sports scrimmages.
On Friday night, November 15, two football playoff games will feature our Arlington teams. Yorktown is set to play against Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m., while Bishop O’Connell faces off against St. Mary’s Ryken at the same time. Fans are expected to show up in full force to support their local athletes as they strive for playoff success.
In field hockey, the Yorktown Patriots will be competing in the semifinals of the Class 6 state tournament. They will go up against Fairfax at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, starting at 5 p.m. A win here would take them one step closer to the state championship.
The ice hockey season is also in full swing. Yorktown will take on Loudoun Valley at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 8 p.m., while Washington-Liberty will play against Forest Park at the Prince William Ice Center at 9:10 p.m. Both games promise to be thrilling encounters on the ice.
Meanwhile, various wrestling and basketball teams will begin their winter campaigns with scrimmages scheduled. Washington-Liberty and Yorktown will compete against Wakefield at 2 p.m. in wrestling. In basketball, there are multiple scrimmages to watch, including Forest Park at Wakefield and Washington-Liberty at Stafford, both set for 7:30 p.m.
This busy weekend is sure to showcase the talent and hard work of our local athletes. Be sure to show your support as they make their final pushes into the postseason and kick off the winter sports season.
