Arlington High Schools Gear Up for an Exciting Week of Sports

Arlington is buzzing with excitement as local high schools prepare for a full week of sports events. Starting Friday, October 18, three high school football games will kick off the weekend, marking a thrilling night for fans and players alike.

The football matches scheduled for Friday include Yorktown facing off against Langley at 7 p.m., Wakefield taking on Marshall also at 7 p.m., and Bishop O’Connell going up against St. Mary’s Ryken at the same time. Fans are encouraged to show up and support their teams!

In addition to football, the Liberty District girls field hockey tournament is set to create some excitement this week, with the exact schedules yet to be announced. The tournament promises competitive action as teams look to seize the title.

Golf enthusiasts can look forward to the Virginia High School League’s Girls State Open qualifier on Saturday, where Arlington’s girls will compete at 10 a.m. in Clifton.

Cross country runners from Bishop O’Connell and Washington-Liberty will take part in a significant Virginia showcase meet on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., providing an excellent opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills.

Throughout the week, other sports teams from Arlington schools including Washington-Liberty and Wakefield will also be in action. Highlights include:

  • Field Hockey: Bishop O’Connell at Spalding on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Washington-Liberty at McLean at 7 p.m.
  • Girls Soccer: Bishop O’Connell facing Good Counsel at 4 p.m. on Friday.
  • Girls Volleyball: Paul VI at Bishop O’Connell on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
  • Girls Tennis: Bishop O’Connell at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

As the week unfolds, teams from Arlington will put their skills to the test and aim for victory. This week is sure to be filled with thrilling plays, hard work, and sportsmanship from all the athletes.
