Arlington High Schools Prepare for a Relaxed Week of Sports

The city of Arlington is experiencing a quieter week in high school sports action as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches and teams prepare for the shift from fall to winter sports. However, sports enthusiasts can still look forward to an exciting postseason football matchup featuring the Washington-Liberty Generals.

The Generals will host the Langley football team at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, marking a significant region semifinal game. This game promises to draw attention and support from the local community as both teams aim for victory.

In addition to the football action, several preseason scrimmages are set to take place across various sports. On Wednesday, wrestling teams will have their skills tested with scrimmages. Wakefield will compete against West Springfield’s girls team at 9 a.m., while Washington-Liberty travels to Lewis at noon and Yorktown faces off against Justice at 9 a.m.

Swimming and diving also take the stage with a meet featuring Bishop O’Connell and Good Counsel at the St. James at noon, giving athletes a chance to prepare for the competitive season ahead.

Basketball season is on the horizon, and there are multiple scrimmage games scheduled for Wednesday evening. West Springfield will visit Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m., and Hayfield will matchup against Yorktown at the same time. The girls will also be in action, with St. Andrew’s traveling to Bishop O’Connell for a scrimmage at 7:30 p.m.

A girls ice hockey contest will take place later in the week, as Bishop O’Connell goes up against St. John’s at MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 3:30 p.m.

With a lighter schedule this week due to the holiday, it’s an excellent opportunity for teams to find their rhythm and for fans to catch some exciting scrimmages leading up to the winter sports season.
