Charleston, South Carolina: Boeing Expands Operations with $1 Billion Investment

Boeing, a leading aircraft manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of $1 billion to upgrade its existing operations in Charleston County, South Carolina. This expansion is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs over the next five years, marking a major development in the region’s aerospace industry.

Expansion Details

The investment will focus on enhancing the infrastructure of Boeing South Carolina (BSC), which has been the site of the complete 787 Dreamliner production cycle since its establishment in 2009. Boeing currently employs over 7,800 people at its facilities located in North Charleston and Orangeburg.

As part of the expansion, both the North Charleston campuses located at 5400 International Blvd. and 9775 Patriot Blvd. will be upgraded to meet increased production targets and potential future rate increases for the 787 Dreamliner series. Boeing plans to ramp up production to a rate of ten airplanes per month by 2026, with operations expected to begin in early 2027.

This investment not only strengthens Boeing’s commitment to Charleston but also underscores the growing importance of the aerospace sector in South Carolina. Charleston County Council Chairman Herbert Ravenel Sass III praised the decision, noting that it enhances the area’s position in the global aerospace market.
