Local High School Sports Roundup

This week in Carroll County, the high school sports scene was buzzing with exciting matchups and exceptional performances across various teams. The South Carroll volleyball team, under new coach Kristine Keck, has kicked off their season with a perfect 3-0 record. The team, known for their competitive spirit, has already made waves with impressive victories over county rivals. They opened their conference play against Westminster on September 12 and secured a commanding three-set win. Following that, they faced Manchester Valley, another top contender, and again emerged victorious in three sets.

The success wasn’t limited to volleyball, as other teams showcased their talent as well. The Century girls cross country team made a significant impact by winning the division title at the Bull Run Invitational. Taylor Colson led her team to victory, finishing first in the individual standings. Similarly, the Liberty girls soccer team improved their season record to 4-0 after defeating Winters Mill, handing them their first loss of the season with a score of 4-2.

Meanwhile, the South Carroll boys soccer team is off to a strong start as well, boasting a flawless 5-0 record and an impressive goal differential of 19-1. They have recorded four consecutive shutout victories, demonstrating their solid defense and offensive power.

In field hockey, Caelin Lopes continues to shine as a defensive leader for South Carroll, mirroring her tenacity from last year’s state championship team. Notably, she achieved her 100th career save in a recent match against Chopticon.

For individual standouts, Chase Miller from Liberty made headlines in football, throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns in a nail-biting game against Manchester Valley, which ended 31-26. On the field hockey front, Gabi Thomas of Westminster proved pivotal, scoring the winning goal in double overtime to secure a victory over Francis Scott Key.

This past week has set the stage for promising seasons ahead. Teams are sure to continue pushing themselves as they strive for success on the field, court, and track.
