Meet Toccara Toland
Toccara Toland is no stranger to the world of basketball. With an impressive track record, she’s been making waves in various coaching positions. Over the past year, she served as the assistant coach at Long Island University. But her passion for the sport really shines from her time as the head coach at Allen University from 2020 to 2023, where she led her team to 26 wins in just three seasons. Notably, she helped guide her team to a winning record of 14-13 during the 2022-23 season!
A Proven Leader
Under Toland’s leadership, Allen’s women’s basketball team reached the SIAC conference quarterfinals. This success showcases her ability to build strong, competitive teams and rally her players to play their best. Before her stint at Allen University, she headed the program at Piedmont International University from 2018 to 2021, where she achieved an impressive 36-21 record and saw her team advance to the NCCAA DI South Regional Championship twice. Toland’s teams even earned rankings as high as #6 nationally!
Rich Coaching Background
Her coaching expertise doesn’t only come from her collegiate experience. Toland also has a strong high school coaching background, having served as the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Lexington High School from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, she played a significant role with the Winston-Salem Lady Warcats, serving as the Associate Head Coach and Director of Operations from 2012 to 2018. Plus, she founded the Lady Warcats in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League in 2010 and even played for the team for two years!

Tolland’s academic achievements are just as impressive. She graduated from Ferrum College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned a M.A.S in Sports Management. Currently, she is furthering her studies by pursuing an EdD in Global Leadership at East Tennessee State University, showing her commitment not just to the game, but to continual learning and growth as a coach.
Illustrious Playing Career
But wait, there’s more! Toccara Toland also made her mark as a player. She was named a WBCA Division III All-American and was the NCAA Division III National Assist Leader in 2005. Her playing career undoubtedly laid the foundation for her future success as a coach. It’s clear she knows both sides of the court—the hustle it takes to win and the heart involved in leading a team.
A Family Woman & Community Member
Originally hailing from North, South Carolina, Toccara now resides in Irmo, with her family. She shares her home with her children, Diamond and William, IV, indicating that family values are an important part of her life.
