It’s a beautiful morning in Clinton, where the skies are a bit cloudy but the temperatures are warming up to around 80°F. As the gentle breeze flows from the northeast at about 5 to 10 mph, just the right weather to invite the community to come out and support a special event happening later this month!
On September 21, Presbyterian College is gearing up to host a remarkable event at Bailey Memorial Stadium during their football game against Gardner-Webb University. The highlight? A heartfelt tribute to the firefighters and first responders who bravely stepped up to combat a massive fire that shook our downtown area on August 27. It was a day that no one in Clinton is likely to forget, but thanks to these heroes, the damage was mitigated and lives were saved.
At halftime of the game, these heroes will be recognized on the field, and it promises to be an emotional moment for everyone involved. This acknowledgment is not just for the ones who battled the flames but for all firefighters and first responders from an impressive total of 31 agencies across Laurens County and the Upstate.
Dee Nichols, the athletic director at PC, expressed the college’s heartfelt gratitude for the courage exhibited by local heroes. “We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to honor the many first responders who put themselves at risk daily to protect people and property — and we want to thank them publicly for their quick response when we needed it,” said Nichols. How very true! We couldn’t agree more!
In a lovely gesture, all first responders who answered the call that day, along with their families, will receive complimentary tickets and reserved seating for this special “Hometown Heroes” event. It’s a fantastic way for the community to come together and celebrate the bravery of these individuals who go above and beyond in our moment of need.
Presbyterian College President Dr. Anita Gustafson also voiced support for the first responders and all individuals committed to serving their communities, especially during emergencies. “At Presbyterian College, we believe that service to others and to the community is paramount,” she stated. Her words echo the sentiments of many as the community rallies around those who protect and serve us. “On August 27, first responders from all over Laurens County and the Upstate bravely answered the call to serve during a dangerous and life-threatening situation, lending their expertise and training when it was needed.”
There will be representation from numerous local fire departments, police agencies, and emergency services. A few of the groups include:
It’s heartwarming to see our community come together to appreciate these individuals who risk their lives for our safety. This event not only honors them but also reminds us to value the commitment and the sacrifices our first responders make every single day.
So, Clinton, let’s make a point to show up on September 21 and cheer for our Blue Hose, but more importantly, let’s show our immense gratitude to the Hometown Heroes who constantly keep us safe. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to come together, celebrate community spirit, and pay homage to those who stand ready whenever needed. See you at the game!
