Coconut Creek High School Football Season Recap: Monarch Knights Excel While Cougars Show Resilience

In Coconut Creek, excitement is in the air as the local high school football teams wrap up their seasons with some notable performances. Monarch High School football had an impressive run, winning their third straight District Championship and finishing the regular season with a 7-4 record. They played only nine games due to scheduling, and two of their defeats came against teams that were ranked in the top ten nationally.

In the playoffs, Monarch faced off against Hkmestesd High School, securing a 28-20 victory driven by strong performances from players like Samari Reed, who scored two rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Florentino Lopez shined with 167 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Jack Speader also contributed to the scoreboard. However, their playoff journey came to an end after a close match against top-seeded South High School, losing 20-14.

Meanwhile, Coconut Creek High School started their season slow with three consecutive losses but managed to finish with a 4-5 record. Earning a spot as the sixth seed in the playoffs, they faced Blanche Ely High School but fell short in a tight game, losing 34-27.

In other sports news, the cross-country teams from both schools also showed promise. Jeremiah Accius led Coconut Creek’s boys’ team with a 54th-place finish, while Layla Naves and Salaya Campbell represented the girls. Monarch’s boys’ team saw strong contributions from Joshua Reneau, Gavin Mulligan, and Brian Colquhoun, with Riley Cockrehan, Luna Hill, and Isabella Alba running for the girls’ team.

Although North Broward Prep did not make it to the postseason for football, they ended their season on a high note by defeating Pine Crest 21-7. Their volleyball team made waves by reaching the Regional Semifinals after winning the District Championship, and the golf team shined with Jerera Mendez, who placed third in the District Championship.

With a mix of ups and downs, the high school sports scene in Coconut Creek remains vibrant and full of talent as athletes prepare for future competitions.
