Community Mourns the Loss of David Earl Wicker Sr. in Prosperity, SC
PROSPERITY, SC – In a quiet home on a peaceful street, the Wicker family is coming together to grieve the loss of their beloved father, brother, and friend, David Earl Wicker Sr., who passed away on September 23, 2024. He was 75 years old and surrounded by the love of his family at the time of his passing.
A Life Well-Lived
Born in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late Freddie Lee Wicker and Jessie Lee Hannie Wicker, David was known for his warm heart and infectious smile. His life touched many, as he raised five children: Anthony Odell Cannon, Darlene Denise Wicker, Marlene Wicker, David Earl Wicker, Jr., and DeWayne Dantez Wicker, all from Prosperity. He also leaves behind cherished siblings, including his sisters Mattie Dorley of Sumter, Mary Sims of Columbia, Marlan Mayers of Batesburg, and others who play a significant role in his rich family tapestry.
A Celebration of Life
To honor his memory, a Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for September 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. The service promises to be a heartfelt gathering where family and friends can share their favorite memories and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who had a profound impact on so many lives. Following the service, David will be laid to rest at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Prior to the celebration, a public viewing will take place on September 25, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the same chapel. This will be an opportunity for those who knew David to pay their respects and offer condolences to his family during this difficult time.

David was not just a father; he was a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and uncle, also cherished by his eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His nurturing and caring nature made him a cornerstone of the family. He is also remembered fondly by his sister-in-law Shirley Wicker, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he held dear to his heart.
