On Friday, several exciting matches took place at high school sports events across the region, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of the athletes.
In golf, the Hap Holohan Tournament held at the Country Club of Darien saw Mac Lawton from McMahon triumph with a score of 75 after winning in a thrilling playoff. Aryan Gautam from Trumbull and Sawyer Dalzell from Staples both finished with a score of 75 as well. Many other competitors put forth strong performances, with Phillip Sullivan from Staples and Hudson Hagmann from Wilton highlighted for their impressive play.
Turning to girls’ soccer, Bethel earned a solid victory over New Fairfield with a score of 4-2. Goals were netted by Olivia Chamberlain, Sinead Deegan, and Laina Caffrey, with assists from Chamberlain and Caffrey. Meanwhile, HMTCA dominated Classical, finishing with a commanding 6-0 win, featuring two goals by Jennelly Florez Aponte.
In boys’ soccer, Ridgefield battled New Canaan to a tie, both teams scoring 1-1 by the end of the match. Zoe Desmarais scored for Ridgefield, while Clare Greisen netted the equalizer for New Canaan. The goalkeepers exhibited strong defenses with saves that kept the match fiercely competitive.
In volleyball, Bethel showed their strength against New Fairfield, winning 3-0 in sets. Highlight performances came from multiple players contributing to the game’s momentum with excellent digs and kills.
In further action, Montville recorded a 6-2 victory over Old Lyme, with Noah Keenan securing a hat trick. This victory showcased Montville’s determination and skill on the field. Xavier also shut out Cheshire with a score of 2-0, bringing more excitement to the day.
