In his new role, he will oversee state and local government relations, regulatory initiatives, and community engagement throughout South Carolina. Lynn Good, the chair and CEO of Duke Energy, stated, “Tim has a unique set of skills that are critical to how we address challenges facing the utility industry in new ways in South Carolina.”

He previously served in advisory roles for multiple South Carolina governors, including as chief of staff for Nikki Haley. His political experience also includes acting as general consultant for Henry McMaster during his campaign for governor in 2018 and 2022.

A South Carolina lawyer with a background in litigation and government affairs, he has been instrumental in the company’s lobbying efforts at the state level.

In addition to Wells, Heather Shirley Smith will continue as vice president of regulatory and policy, focusing on regulatory matters. Rick Jiran will maintain his position as vice president of government and community relations, emphasizing local government engagements and community connections.
