EASLEY — A dramatic scene unfolded on Monday morning as local law enforcement responded to reports of a suspect threatening harm at a popular retail store. According to the Easley Police Department, the incident began around 10:50 a.m. at the Tractor Supply Company on Rolling Hills Circle.
Authorities reported that the suspect had been confronted while attempting to steal merchandise from the store. Following this confrontation, the individual allegedly issued threats of physical harm towards the store manager. This prompted store employees to contact the police.
As officers were en route to the site, they received new information indicating that the suspect had relocated to another area nearby. It was reported that the suspect was in possession of a gas can and was making threats to pour the gasoline on a vehicle. In light of this situation, officers quickly mobilized to the new location to evaluate and address the threat.
Upon arrival, the officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by engaging with the suspect. However, tensions escalated rapidly, and the police felt the need to act to protect everyone involved. During the course of the incident, at least one officer discharged their weapon.
Following the shooting, the Pickens County Coroner’s Office was notified of the incident, and an investigation into the suspect’s death is currently underway. As of now, the identity of the deceased suspect has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
