East Lyme Dominates Norwich Free Academy, Wins 3-0

East Lyme – In an exciting high school soccer matchup on Wednesday, Bacon Academy faced off against Ledyard, with Ledyard emerging victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 tie. This match was key for Bacon Academy, as they clinched first place in ECC Division II, ensuring a first-round bye in the upcoming ECC Tournament.

Bacon Academy started strong, with senior captain Eddie Hageman finding the back of the net in the first half, thanks to an assist from junior Zach Russo. However, Ledyard responded in the second half when Ben Crowe scored, assisted by Sean O’Brien, capitalizing on a loose ball near the Bobcats’ goal. In the end, the game moved to penalties, where Ledyard’s Paulo Templeton shined, making two crucial saves to secure the win with the last kick of the shootout.

In other local action, East Lyme defeated Norwich Free Academy with a solid performance, winning 3-0. Caleb Trost was the standout player for East Lyme, scoring twice with assistance from Ryan Wargo. Garrison Biggs also contributed to the scoreboard, enhancing East Lyme’s impressive record of 12-0-2.

The day also featured the match of Hopkins against Rye Country Day, where Hopkins dominated the field, winning 6-1. Junior Munib Kassem scored two goals, while other players like Jeet Bhatnagar, Wyatt Sloan, Nate Huang, and Tommy Pont added to the tally.

As the fall season progresses, high school teams continue to showcase their talents on the field, ensuring that fans are treated to thrilling performances throughout the region.
