In the vibrant city of Minneapolis, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation as the state championships took center stage this weekend. Numerous high school teams showcased their talent in various sports, with thrilling matches unfolding in front of enthusiastic crowds.
In the CI Division State Tournament, the semifinals saw Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville clinching a solid 4-2 victory over Park Center. Meanwhile, Dakota United dominated South Suburban with a score of 3-0. The consolation semifinals were equally exciting, with South Washington County defeating St. Cloud 9-4 and Stillwater/Mahtomedi beating Buffalo, Monticello, and STMA 9-3.
In the PI Division State Tournament, Mpls. South delivered a strong performance, crushing Park Center with a score of 13-3. Rochester then secured their spot in the finals after a 4-0 win against Dakota United. The fierce battle continued in the consolation semifinals with Anoka-Hennepin edging out St. Paul Humboldt 5-4 and Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound Westonka dominating South Suburban 9-1.
Highlights continued as Class 5A teams took to the field with Alexandria overcoming Owatonna 42-20, while in Class 3A, Dassel-Cokato narrowly edged out Pequot Lakes 29-26, and Stewartville defeated Albany 33-20. In Class 1A, Minneota sailed past Parkers Prairie with a decisive 45-0 win.
The state swim meets also generated some thrilling moments. At the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, Minnetonka emerged victorious in the Class 2A State Meet with a total of 325 points, narrowly beating Edina, who scored 300. Notable performances included a tie in the 200 medley relay, showcasing the competitive spirit of the swimmers.
