Waukesha Hosts Exciting State Swimming Championships

Waukesha – In an outstanding display of talent and determination, Appleton North swimmer Ana Flanagan secured her place in history by winning the 100-yard breaststroke at the state championships, held at Waukesha South High School. Flanagan clocked in at 1:03.20, just edging out Annika Curran from Verona Area, who followed closely with a time of 1:03.34.

This victory makes Flanagan the third female swimmer from Appleton North to earn a state title, joining the ranks of Cortnee Adams and Stephanie Gould. Adams previously dominated the pool, winning a remarkable seven individual titles throughout her career, while Gould brought home a diving title in 1997.

In addition to her individual success, Flanagan also played a crucial role in the team’s performance in the 200 freestyle relay. Alongside teammates Afton Scoresby, Elise Brazzale, and Maddie Loken, the team secured a third-place finish with a time of 1:36.22, as Middleton claimed the victory in the event with a time of 1:33.90.

The overall team competition saw Middleton triumph with a total of 334 points, while Appleton North placed seventh with 107 points. Other notable performances at the championships included Carly Larson from De Pere/West De Pere who clinched third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.42 seconds. Julia Saxman from Germantown topped the event in 53.34 seconds.

In the end, the championship not only highlighted individual achievements but also showcased the spirit of teamwork and competitiveness among high school athletes throughout the state.
