NEWBERRY – Good news for residents of Newberry County! As the community continues to bounce back from the impacts of Hurricane Helene, folks affected by the storm are now eligible to receive assistance from FEMA. Yes, you heard it right—help is on the way!
If you faced losses during the hurricane, it’s time to take action. Residents can start the registration process for assistance right now. There are several ways to get your application in:
Feeling overwhelmed or unsure about how to proceed? Don’t worry! There’s help at your fingertips. A Disaster Survivor Assistance Team will be visiting Newberry County on Monday, October 7, to assist residents directly. This team will be stationed at the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Drill Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
What can you expect from this team? They’re there to answer any questions you have about the assistance process and will help you navigate the registration for Individual Assistance with FEMA. However, it’s important to note that the team will not be able to upload documents or directly pay out any Individual Assistance at this event.
The local Emergency Management Director, Tommy Long, has expressed his gratitude for the support from FEMA during this challenging time. He said, “We have received a lot of questions about applying and what they need to do to get assistance. The Disaster Survivor Assistance Team is providing a huge asset to Newberry County residents.”
This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to get the insights they need from experts who are ready and willing to lend a hand. So, mark your calendars for October 7! It’s a walk-in event, so bring all your questions and get ready to tackle the next steps together.
