PROSPERITY, S.C. — Mid-Carolina High School’s football team is eager to leave the injury-plagued 2023 season behind and look forward to a fresh start in 2024. Last year was undeniably tough for the Rebels, but with a young and talented roster, they are optimistic about turning the tide.
2023 proved to be a challenging year for the Mid-Carolina Rebels, finishing with a record of 2-9. Injuries took a toll on the roster, and the team struggled, winning just two games and losing in the first round of the state playoffs. As the saying goes, “you limp into the season, then you will limp out of it.” The coaching staff and players have made it clear that they are choosing to focus on the future.
Under the leadership of head coach Chris Arnoult, the Rebels understand the need for a reset. Despite losing three of their top offensive playmakers from last season, the team is embracing a “youth movement.” Players like Wyatt Mazza stepped up last year, gaining valuable experience that should benefit the team this season.
This year, the Rebels are not just aiming for a better record. There’s also an itch for revenge against their rivals, especially Whitmire. After a 22-year win streak was snapped last season at home in a defensive struggle against the Wolverines, the Rebels are set for a rematch this year in Whitmire, and they intend to reclaim their dominance.
Furthermore, the biggest rivalry lies with Newberry High School. The Rebels have not beaten Newberry in football since the 2010 season, and this could be the year they change that narrative. The players and fans alike are eager for a win after so long.
As the 2024 season approaches, the Rebels have set clear goals. One of these is to achieve more than three wins in a season, something they have not accomplished in nine years. Additionally, they are hoping to secure their first playoff victory since 2010, which would be a significant milestone for the program.
The Mid-Carolina Rebels will kick off their new season at home, with two of their first three games against rivals. The excitement is building as fans and players anticipate the start of the football season on August 23, 2024. Here’s a look at their upcoming schedule:
Note: All games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., but are subject to change.
The Rebels will rely on several key players this season, including:
With a strong mix of returning players and emerging talent, Mid-Carolina is hopeful that the 2024 season brings new opportunities, thrilling matches, and perhaps renewed victory in their sights.
Fans, players, and coaches are ready to see what the season will unfold as they work hard to transform last season’s disappointments into this year’s successes.
