High School Football Showdowns: Cincinnati Teams Shine Ahead of Postseason

Sports Update from Greater Cincinnati

As high school football teams in Northern Kentucky continue their regular season, schools in Ohio and Indiana are already diving into the postseason. With intriguing matchups and impressive performances this week, here’s what happened in the local games.

Lakota West Dominates

The Lakota West Firebirds showcased a strong performance against the Walnut Hills Eagles, shutting them out with a final score of 49-0. The Firebirds’ defense was remarkable, allowing just 20 total yards from the Eagles and even recording negative rushing yards at -13. This game marked the fifth shutout win for Lakota West this season. Offensively, the Firebirds rushed for 277 yards, led by Jackson Smith with 63 yards and Kenyon Norman with 61 yards, both found the end zone during the game.

Thrilling Battle at Lakota East

A tight game unfolded between the Lakota East Thunderhawks and West Clermont. After leading 28-21 at halftime, the Thunderhawks did not look back as they triumphed with a score of 42-28. Ryder Hooks was a standout, amassing 272 rushing yards and landing four touchdowns, both personal bests for the junior. The Thunderhawks capitalized with impressive passing from Kitna, who achieved 201 yards through the air.

Newport Continues Winning Streak

Newport finished the regular season strong, defeating Holy Cross by 37-0. Quarterback Kyle Lee threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his passing skills with each touchdown going to a different receiver. The defense also performed stellar, achieving two consecutive shutouts in their final stretch.

Covington Catholic Moves Forward

The Covington Catholic Colonels took an early lead against Campbell County, finishing strong with a score of 42-28. Despite a late surge from the Camels, CovCath’s efficient play by quarterback Cash Harney, who rushed for 103 yards and threw for two scores, proved too much to handle.

Other Highlights

Clinton-Massie cruised past Roger Bacon with a 41-7 victory, while Elder squeezed past Mason by 28-3, keeping their postseason hopes alive. Notably, Anderson scored a significant victory against Edgewood with a score of 78-7.

As the postseason kicks off, all eyes are on Greater Cincinnati teams as they strive for excellence and potential state championships.
