High School Sports Roundup: Last Week’s Top Performers

Last week in New York high school sports, several athletes put on impressive performances across a variety of sports. Here’s a look at some standout performances from football, soccer, and field hockey.

Football Highlights

In football, Lucius Anderson from CBA was a showstopper, scoring four touchdowns in a dominant 69-13 victory against Colonie. Kala’i Makanani of Ballston Spa also shined, rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Scotties to a narrow 28-23 win over Queensbury. On the other side, Zavry Ward of Queensbury tossed for 220 yards and three touchdowns, but his team fell short.

Meanwhile, Brayden Deere from Gloversville rushed for 270 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-7 win against Scotia-Glenville, and Nick Jeckel from Warrensburg/Lake George/Bolton added to an impressive performance with 186 yards and two touchdowns as they beat Greenwich, 54-0.

Soccer Standouts

Switching to soccer, Jackson Eberz from Guilderland scored twice, helping his team to a 4-0 victory over Christian Brothers Academy. In another thrilling match, Christian Bermejo scored a critical late goal for Albany, leading to a 2-1 overtime win against Shenendehowa.

Brandon DaCosta of Ichabod Crane marked his scoring frenzy with four goals in a 10-2 win against La Salle, while Gabby Chase from Johnstown netted three goals, pushing her team to a strong 4-0 victory over Corinth.

Field Hockey News

In field hockey action, Marie Bogue of Guilderland scored the winning goal in a thrilling overtime victory over Colonie, sealing a 2-1 win in the Class AAA quarterfinals.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, key football games this week include Saratoga Springs at Shenendehowa and Queensbury at Columbia, both scheduled for Friday night. In boys’ soccer, keep an eye on Albany vs. Guilderland and Saratoga Springs vs. Shaker, both taking place on Tuesday.
