High School Football Playoff Thrills: Key Performers Shine in Last Week’s Action

High School Sports Roundup: Top Performers Shine

Last week, high school athletes across the region showcased their talents in various sports, with standout performances making headlines. In football, Archie Jones of CBA led his team to a solid victory over Saratoga Springs in the Class AA sectionals. He rushed for two touchdowns and even threw for another, clearly proving to be a key player for the Brothers.

Shaker’s junior quarterback, Marcus Snipes, also had an impressive game as he completed 7-of-12 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown. He added a rushing touchdown as the Blue Bison narrowly triumphed over Shenendehowa with a score of 28-21 in the Class AA semifinals. On the other side, Ihsann Alozie stood out for Shenendehowa, rushing for 147 yards and scoring two touchdowns, alongside an interception return for a touchdown.

Over at Colonie, Steven Thomas played a pivotal role in leading the Wolf Pack to a thrilling comeback against Bethlehem, throwing for 294 yards and four touchdowns. His standout performance, along with Brady Wyland contributing three touchdown receptions, helped secure a 33-29 victory.

As for soccer, Kofi Sarfoh from Shaker scored key goals in the Blue Bison’s Section II Class AAA title win, and also netted a goal in the state semifinals, marking the team’s historic journey to state playoffs. Meanwhile, in girls’ soccer, Megan Baumeister of Columbia was instrumental in securing a 3-1 victory over East Syracuse-Minoa with two goals, while Gianna Pitts delivered a hat trick for Mechanicville.

Cross country athletes also made waves, with Owen Conley capturing the Section II Class A title. In the girls’ competition, Layla Bhusri claimed the Class A title, showcasing impressive speed and endurance.

The upcoming week promises more exciting games, as the football playoffs continue. Notable matches include Shaker taking on CBA and Schuylerville facing Cobleskill-Richmondville, both set for this Friday night. With so much talent and exciting matchups ahead, high school sports are certainly keeping the community engaged.
