High School Sports Roundup: Glastonbury Dominates, Seymour and Innovation Advance

Glastonbury, CT – In a commanding performance, the Glastonbury High School girls’ soccer team triumphed over Hamden with a score of 6-1 in the Class L first round. Leading the charge for Glastonbury was sophomore Addison Infante, who scored three goals. Supporting her efforts were Samantha Kohlun, Zoe White, and Deirdre McKiernan, each contributing one goal. Hamden’s lone goal came from Lexy Patel.

In addition to her scoring, McKiernan also tallied two assists, while Infante and Annelise Manzotti each had one assist of their own. Goalkeeper Maddie O’Connell made three saves for Glastonbury, securing their victory and improving their record to 16-1. Meanwhile, Hamden ended the season with a record of 11-6.

In another match on the same day, the Seymour volleyball team put on a spectacular display, sweeping Wilcox Tech 3-0 in the Class M second round with set scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-4. Ana Overkamp led the offense with six kills, while Kenzie O’Hayre shined defensively with eight digs. Ryan Sadick also contributed significantly, adding nine kills to the team’s impressive performance.

Additionally, Innovation faced off against Coginchaug in the Class S second round, winning a hard-fought battle that went the distance. The final score was 3-2, with set scores of 25-19 (C), 25-16 (C), 25-20 (I), 25-21 (I), and 15-10 (I). Innovation was powered by strong defensive plays from Patrina McHugh with 10 digs, Madison Ramos with 11 digs, and Sezja Jacobs, who had three blocks. Phoebe Candy also made a significant impact with eight kills.

As the tournament continues, teams are gearing up for the next rounds, with high hopes for advancing further in the playoffs.
