High School Sports Roundup: Fall Season

This Saturday saw some exciting high school sports action across the region, with several teams showing impressive performances.

In Montville, the Montville girls’ soccer team faced off against Plainfield and delivered a solid performance, winning 7-2. Montville scored four goals in the first half, with Allie Kondash netting two goals and MacKenzie O’Donnell adding two more. The team continued to dominate in the second half, with O’Donnell and Kondash each scoring again. For Plainfield, Leila Mendez scored during the first half and Keriana Heredia found the net in the second. Montville goalkeeper Sienna Gressly made 14 saves, while Plainfield’s Makayla Williams had 13 saves on the day. Montville’s record improved to 9-2-1.

In a more lopsided match, Lyman Memorial crushed New London with a final score of 7-0. Lyman raced to a 5-0 lead by halftime, thanks to goals from Emily Mckelvey, Avery Volle, Beccas Ziegler, Isabelle Nowosad, and Taylor Lawrence. Their defense was strong, with Phoebe Carpenter making two saves. Lyman’s record is now an impressive 11-2-1.

Old Saybrook also had a strong showing, defeating East Hampton 4-1. Arianna Fox scored two goals for Old Saybrook, while Claire Casella and Ainsley Sigersmith each added another. Abbie Miller netted East Hampton’s only goal in the match.

In another close match, Oxford narrowly beat Watertown 2-1. Gavin Shupp and Lucas Arnold scored for Oxford, while Watertown’s only goal came from an own goal by Oxford. Oxford’s goalkeeper, Luke DiNatale, made four saves to help secure the victory.

Overall, it was an eventful day for high school sports, with teams showcasing their skill and determination on the field.
