Vermont High School Fall Sports Season Kicks Off

This week marks the beginning of the fall sports season across Vermont, with high schools showcasing their talent in soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running. Teams are eager to make their mark as they compete in a variety of exciting matches.

In boys’ soccer, the Catamounts continue to impress with an impressive record, pushing their unbeaten streak to 13 games after a narrow 1-0 victory over Bryant. Pieter Bultman scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute, assisted by Sydney Wathuta. The team’s goalkeeper, Niklas Herceg, made three vital saves to secure the win.

Over on the field hockey side, Fair Haven dominated Woodstock with a decisive 6-0 scoreline, led by Maddy Perry and Leigha Kretzer, both scoring three goals each. The combined efforts of Kate Hadwen, who saved eight shots, ensured a shutout for Fair Haven.

Continuing the excitement, the volleyball court was also alive with action. South Burlington put on a stellar performance, taking down Mount Anthony 3-0. Kyle Couture and Reese Gordon were standout players, with Couture netting two goals during the match.

In various other matchups, Winooski secured a 6-0 victory over BFA-Fairfax, with Oliver Mathys-Vallario scoring three goals. Rice faced off against Milton, winning 5-2 with strong contributions from Andrew Greene.

The community is excited as these athletes showcase their hard work and dedication. Coaches and team representatives are encouraged to report scores promptly after games so fans can stay updated on the season’s progress.
