High School Sports Update: State Tournaments and Region Quarterfinals

In Cincinnati, the OHSAA Division II state tournament produced some exciting results this week. The competition was fierce as teams battled for the top spots. The team standings were led by Alter with a score of 598, followed closely by Ottawa Hills at 624. Other notable performances came from Northwestern with 653, and Chagrin Falls at 654. St. Clairsville, Columbus Academy, John Glenn, and Poland Seminary also secured their standings by finishing in the top ten.

On the individual leaderboard, Finley Bartlett from Wyoming and Matthew Kreusch from Alter tied for first place, both shooting a remarkable 140. TJ Kreusch, also from Alter, performed well with a score of 148.

In the girls’ tournament, Columbus Academy topped the scoreboard at 668. Madeira followed at 695, and Garaway came in third with 702. Individual standout, Eva Lim of Columbus Academy, secured first place with a score of 143, showcasing her impressive skills on the course.

Shifting to the KHSAA 8th Region quarterfinals, Woodford County defeated Grant County with a decisive 6-0 victory. In a tight match, Collins triumphed over Simon Kenton via penalty kicks after a 2-1 finish in regulation. Other notable games included Walton-Verona edging out Spencer County 2-1.

Over in the KHSAA 9th Region quarterfinals, Notre Dame delivered a solid performance against St. Henry, winning 6-0. Top scorers for Notre Dame included Tully and Stegman, each netting two goals. Highlands narrowly defeated Cooper 1-0, thanks to a goal from Graves.

Finally, Campbell County recorded a strong 4-0 victory against Montgomery County, while Bishop Brossart dominated Pendleton County with an impressive 9-0 shutout.
