Excitement Builds as Fall Sports Season Kicks Off at Lake Forest High School

Sports Thrive at Lake Forest High School

In Lake Forest, high school sports have been a vibrant part of student life, with students participating in various games and competitions throughout the year. Many students have expressed their enthusiasm for being part of a sports team, emphasizing the wonderful experiences they’ve had while developing friendships and skills.

One student shared their journey, stating, “Participating in five sports in three years is not what I expected my high school extracurriculars to look like; however, looking back, I wouldn’t change anything.” This sentiment resonates with many; the excitement of joining a new team and forming connections with teammates often outweighs the initial nerves of tryouts.

The physical benefits of engaging in high school sports are also significant. According to health experts, as heart rates increase during exercise, endorphins are released, promoting positive feelings and a more energized outlook on life. As students immerse themselves in sports, not only do they enhance their physical well-being, but they also enjoy the social advantages that come along with participating in these activities.

Senior Nick Nassar is a prime example of this positive experience. He expresses his appreciation for having a “supportive group of people around me who care about me and make me better.” Nassar, who has excelled in Boys Varsity Track and Field, credits his community for helping him achieve great success. Recently, he placed third at Sectionals, qualifying for the Illinois State Finals, showcasing the results of hard work and dedication.

When asked about the role sports play in his life, Nassar shared, “Sports are the healthiest way of making friends, boosting mental and physical health by having good people around you.” His journey in athletics has not only shaped his friendships but has also led him to commit to throwing at the Division 1 level at Villanova University, a testament to the opportunities that high school sports can provide.

Lake Forest High School aims to cater to all students, offering a variety of sports at different levels of competitiveness. Athletic Director Tim Burkhalter believes in making sports inclusive, stating, “We have a nice job of having a wide range of sports at all levels that are still not watered down or less competitive.” He encourages students to explore their interests in sports during their freshman year to find what resonates with them.

In conclusion, high school sports at Lake Forest are more than just games. They offer students a chance to grow physically, socially, and academically. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to the game, embracing the opportunity to participate can significantly enhance your high school experience. So if you’re on the fence about joining a team, take the leap; you never know what amazing memories and friendships await you.
