High School Sports Thriving in Minneapolis: Key Performances and Upcoming Tournaments

Minneapolis – High school sports are heating up as several teams wrapped up their matches this week across various competitions. In a thrilling game of adapted soccer, Rochester took a decisive victory over St. Paul Humboldt with a score of 8-5. Both teams showcased their skills, but Rochester’s offense proved too much to handle.

Meanwhile, the cross-country events have been generating excitement, especially in the boys’ section. At Highland National Golf Course, Stillwater finished impressively, securing a spot in the state meet with a total team score of 30. Top runners included Dylan Rinkier, clocking in at 15:55.7, and George Nelson at 16:04.3. Two Rivers managed to come in second with a score of 47.

The girls’ cross-country section saw White Bear Lake also claim victory, scoring 58, with standout performances from Logan Bailey finishing at 18:43.1, securing their place in the state competition. Similarly, Wayzata shined in the girls’ section 6 meet at Gale Woods Farm, scoring 22, with Maddie Gullickson leading the way in her heat.

In soccer action, both boys and girls teams put on strong performances. In the boys’ Class 3A state tournament quarterfinals, Mpls. Washburn triumphed against Bemidji with a solid 3-0 win. On the girls’ side, Edina dominated Duluth East, closing the match with a convincing score of 5-0.

Your local volleyball teams also saw action this week, with Farmington fighting hard to win a tight match against Owatonna, ultimately triumphing in a dramatic five-set contest. Several other teams showcased their skills, including Lakeville North, which easily defeated Rochester Century with a score of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-9.

As the tournaments progress, anticipation continues to build among fans and players alike. Stay tuned as these spirited student-athletes look to keep their seasons and hopes alive.
