This weekend saw some exciting high school sports action across various cities. In Wilton, the girls’ soccer team dominated on the field, smashing Glastonbury with a score of 7-1. The standout player was Sabrina Sharfuddin, who scored two goals and assisted on two others. Other contributors included Clara Fielden, Mary Sylvester, Bridget Grosso, Casey O’Connor, and Liza Fogelson each contributing one goal. On the other side, Zoe White was the lone scorer for Glastonbury.
Both teams now have a record of 9-1. Wilton’s goalkeepers, Mary Schwartz and Ava Salvino, combined for five saves, while Glastonbury’s Maddie O’Connell made an impressive 21 saves but couldn’t stop the relentless attack.
In Branford, the boys’ soccer team claimed a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against New Canaan. Aliza Giordano was the hero of the game, scoring both goals, including the game-winner with just under seven minutes left in overtime. Cara Passios netted New Canaan’s lone goal.
Hamden also enjoyed a convincing win, shutting out Sheehan with a score of 5-0. Ava Martin and Jozie Becker were both standout players, contributing effectively to the scoring mix. Hamden’s strong performance has pushed their record to 9-2-0-1.
Over at Seymour, the boys’ soccer team secured a solid 3-0 win against Torrington. Goals came from Joey Carrafiello and Nathan Ferriera, with assists from Nick Kyrytschenko, Matt Alves, and Demetrios Karagiannis.
Other scores include Hamden narrowly beating Lyman Hall 2-1 and Hopkins overwhelming Canterbury with an 8-0 victory.
This weekend highlighted talent across fields and teams, adding excitement among fans and players alike. As the fall sports season continues, these results set the stage for an entertaining finish.
