High School Varsity Roundup: Exciting Action on October 30

On a competitive Wednesday night in Baltimore, several high school varsity teams battled it out in regional quarterfinals and state tournament games, showcasing some impressive performances.

In a Class 2A regional quarterfinal, the host Century Knights dominated the Francis Scott Key Eagles, securing a straight-sets victory at 25-10, 25-16, 25-12. The Knights saw notable contributions from Gabby Zajaczkowski, Abhi Yadlapalli, and Hannah Heffernan, each recording seven kills. Corinne Zepp also had a standout night with 16 digs and nine aces.

Meanwhile, the Carver A&T Wildcats faced off against Pikesville in a thrilling Class 1A match, coming back from losing the first set to win 3-2. The set scores were 23-25, 25-14, 25-16, 19-25, and 15-10, highlighting the Wildcats’ tenacity.

In another 3A match, the Annapolis Panthers showcased their strength against the Suitland Rams, winning decisively with scores of 25-3, 25-12, and 25-9. The Panthers were powered by Tessa Cohen and McHale Hughes, along with Lindsay Lyman and Carolin Heyder, all contributing significantly to the victory.

The Liberty Lions also had a successful outing, defeating the Catoctin Cougars in Class 1A with a clean sweep of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-19. Jasmine Bada led the charge with a great all-around performance.

Over in Class 3A, the Manchester Valley Mavericks edged out the Westminster Owls with a 3-1 win. Emily Troy was a force with 23 kills alongside her defensive effort.

In a battle between the Fallston Cougars and the North East Indians, Fallston came out on top with a 3-1 victory. Finally, Edgewood advanced in the state tournament, defeating Aberdeen 3-1.

In boys’ soccer, the South River Seahawks captured the 3A East Region I title, winning 4-1 over J.M. Bennett. Goals were scored by Daniel Rodriguez, Lucas Gardeniers, Jacob Sullivan, and Jeffrey Serrano, showcasing a strong team effort.

All these matches highlight the talent and dedication of our local high school athletes as they push through towards the playoffs. Fans will look forward to more exciting games in the coming days!
