On a competitive Wednesday, the volleyball playoffs showcased some thrilling matches across the region, with several teams clinching important wins as they moved closer to championship glory.
C. Milton Wright Dominates Fallston
The C. Milton Wright Mustangs delivered a strong performance, sweeping the Fallston Cougars 3-0 in the Class 2A East Region I final. The set scores were 25-21, 25-13, and 25-11. Leading the charge for CMW, Maddie Duffalo stood out with 13 kills. She received great support from Ana Mioduski who contributed seven kills and four aces. Other notable players included Olivia Kobb with six kills and five aces and Grace Boseck adding four kills. The team’s setter, Jenna Ritz, facilitated the offense with 28 assists and three aces, while Addyson Bradley provided solid defense with five digs and three aces.
Carver A&T Triumphs Over Western Tech
In another exciting clash, the Carver A&T Wildcats defeated Western Tech 3-1 in the 1A North Region I final. The sets went 25-19, 25-22, 12-25, 25-14, showcasing Carver’s resilience.
Howard Lions Outlast River Hill
Over in Class 3A, the Howard Lions faced the River Hill Hawks and secured a 3-1 victory, with set scores of 25-10, 25-12, 21-25, and 25-20. Kaleigh Williams led the Lions with 9 kills and 5 blocks, while Mariska Ordonez and McKenna Brown each added 8 kills.
Reservoir Gators Advance
The Reservoir Gators also made headlines by advancing to the 4A state quarterfinals with a convincing 3-0 win against Montgomery-Blair, scoring 25-18, 25-18, and 25-19. Nina Amani-Dove and Tiana Copp were key players, each notching 10 kills.
Patterson Mill Claims Championship
The Patterson Mill Huskies captured the 1A East Region I championship with a dominant 3-0 victory over Bohemia Manor. The set scores were 25-11, 25-19, and 25-14, thanks in large part to Harlon Jones, who delivered 14 kills.
Broadneck Beats Leonardtown
Lastly, in Class 4A, Broadneck’s Bruins defeated Leonardtown 3-0 with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-15, highlighted by Sydney Lawrence who racked up 17 service points and 5 aces.
