Iowa High School Football: Week 9 Recap

This Friday marked an exciting end to the regular season of high school football in Iowa. As we wrapped up Week 9, teams in Classes 5A, 4A, and 3A fought for a chance to qualify for the playoffs, while first-round playoff games took place in 2A, 1A, A, and 8-player classifications. Fans eagerly awaited the matchups that will determine the fates of these teams in the coming weeks.

Some of the top games of the night included Norwalk edging out Glenwood with a final score of 29-26, and Lewis Central decisively defeating Dallas Center-Grimes 49-8. In a commanding performance, Waukee Northwest crushed Ames 50-6. Other notable scores include Pleasant Valley beating Linn-Mar 35-21 and Waterloo West narrowly defeating Ottumwa with a score of 28-21.

As the night progressed, more scores came in. North Polk wrapped up their regular season with a strong 27-14 win over ADM, while Centennial held Urbandale to just 7 points in their 49-7 victory. Waukee also had an impressive performance, annihilating C.B. Lincoln 66-7.

Looking ahead, the Iowa High School Athletic Association is expected to announce the playoff qualifiers for 5A, 4A, and 3A around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, with first-round pairings expected by 10 a.m. on Saturday. Fans are buzzing with anticipation as they think about the matchups that await their favorite teams.

This week has been filled with thrilling plays and standout performances from young athletes, reminding everyone why high school football holds such a special place in the community.
