NEWBERRY — Exciting changes are happening at Newberry Middle School as Jennifer Brown has officially been appointed as the new Assistant Principal. Brown’s journey in education spans seven years, all within the School District of Newberry County, and she expresses great enthusiasm for stepping into this new role.
Brown is a native of Newberry County, having graduated from Whitmire Community School. She holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina Upstate and has completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Throughout her career, Brown has received several notable recognitions. Just recently, she was honored as the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year from Newberry Middle School. Additionally, she grabbed the spotlight as the WLTX Teacher of the Week during the 2023-24 school year and was named the Distinguished Literacy Teacher of the Year for the same year. These awards reflect her hard work and dedication to the education field.
In her previous roles, Brown has not only focused on teaching but has also taken on significant leadership responsibilities. She is the founder and lead coordinator of the PAWsitive Tiger Experience Mentorship Program, which supports students in their educational journeys. Moreover, she has led various teams, serving as the related arts team leader, and has taken the initiative as the SDNC Computer Science Lead Teacher for the district.
Her experience extends to being the lead teacher for the NMS Student Ambassadors and the NMS Tiger News. Brown has also played an important part in administration over the summers, being named the lead administrator for summer school in both 2023 and 2024.
As she embarks on her new journey, Brown will tackle various responsibilities at Newberry Middle School. Her duties will include managing attendance, overseeing excessive tardies, and coordinating the Junior Beta Club among many other tasks. She will also assist with important student assessments, coordinate textbooks, manage Awards Celebrations, and support special education needs as the 504 Coordinator.
Brown is ready to take on the challenges that come with her new position and looks forward to continuing her mission of supporting students. “I am humbled and happy to continue serving stakeholders of the School District of Newberry County,” she shared. “I am excited to start year eight within the same district and same school that I began my educational career. Though I am entering a new role, my passion and purpose will remain consistent.” A phrase that stands out from the school’s motto is: “Whatever it takes, our kids are worth it!”
With Brown stepping into the role of Assistant Principal, the Newberry Middle School community is optimistic about the positive impact she will bring to both students and staff. Her commitment to education and fostering a supportive learning environment is commendable, and the administration team looks forward to working together under her leadership.
As the school year progresses, the entire Newberry community will certainly keep an eye on what Brown and her team will accomplish in making Newberry Middle School a great place for students to learn and grow.
