Man Found Fatally Shot at Northeast Portland Motel Parking Lot, Police Seeking Public Assistance in Investigation

Fatal Shooting in NE Portland Motel Parking Lot

In a tragic incident that unfolded in a motel parking lot in Northeast Portland, a man was found fatally shot late Saturday. Authorities did not reveal the identity of the victim or the motel where the crime occurred.

Location of The Crime

While the authorities have chosen to withhold the name of the motel, they disclosed that the tragic incident took place in the 3600 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue. This location was previously spotlighted in a series of reports as a hotspot for ongoing social issues such as gun violence, homelessness, addiction, and sex trafficking.

No Suspects, No Arrests

The police department announced that no suspects were found at the scene of the crime. Despite thorough searches, no arrests have been made yet.

This tragic episode has marked the 37th incidence out of the 38 suspected homicides recorded in Portland this year. To put this number into perspective, by this time the previous year, the city had recorded 46 homicides, a slight drop from the record highs of 2021 and 2022.

Appeal to the Public

The police department is urging anyone with information about this unfortunate incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Information can be relayed to Detective Meghan Burkeen or Detective Brian Sims, and quickly help to resolve the ongoing investigation, shedding light on this tragic occurrence. The person providing information should reference case number 24-168278.

Increasing Homicide Rates in Portland Area

In light of the recent string of lethal incidents, concerns about the rising crime rates in the city continue to grow. Incidents like a Southeast Portland shooting that resulted in one death and one injury to a teenager have prompted people to take a more serious look into the state of law enforcement and safety measures in the city.

A case where a man was gunned down in a suspected drive-by shooting caused further unrest in the community. In addition, the death of a man post an incident of shooting in NW Portland has only added fuel to the existing tension within the city’s residents.

In another shocking instance, a Portland man was sentenced to a 14-year prison term, found guilty for a deadly shooting that took place at his brother’s vigil. Also, a ‘hood check’ amongst gang members, leading to a deadly drive-by shooting at a Portland MAX stop, was disclosed by a jury.

The Need For Public Support

As the city grapples with its ongoing battle against rising violence, public support becomes a crucial asset. Adherence to rules, sharing of information and an active approach towards maintaining personal safety and public order are important steps towards reclaiming the peace in Portland.
