MANITOWOC – The Menasha Bluejays showcased their strength as they defeated the Manitowoc Ships 42-0 in a decisive game on Friday night. This win boosts the Bluejays’ record to 4-1 in the Fox River Classic Conference-South and makes them eligible for the playoffs.
The Bluejays wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first quarter. Jaydon Lanser caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Logan Liegl, followed by a 1-yard touchdown run from Elijah Gigl, ending the first quarter with a 14-0 lead. The scoring continued in the second quarter with Lanser catching another touchdown, this time from 10 yards out. The Bluejays went into halftime leading 20-0.
In the third quarter, Gigl made a significant impact, running for two more touchdowns (one from 12 yards and another from 5 yards) to increase their advantage to 35-0. Beau Thompson capped off the scoring for Menasha in the fourth quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run, bringing the final score to 42-0.
Gigl had an impressive game, rushing for 148 yards on 20 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Lanser was also a standout, catching two touchdown passes. The Bluejays now sit at 4-3 overall and are set to play at home against Sheboygan South next Friday.
This was a vital victory for Menasha, positioning them well as they head into the crucial final weeks of the regular season.
