Newberry Prepares for 41st Annual National Night Out Event at Mollohon Park on August 6

Newberry Gears Up for National Night Out on August 6

NEWBERRY — Excitement is building as the city prepares for National Night Out, scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, from 6-8 p.m. The event will take place at Mollohon Park, located at 211 Player Street in Newberry.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out is an annual event aimed at fostering community spirit and strengthening the relationship between residents and law enforcement. This year marks the 41st annual National Night Out, which has been celebrated since its inception in 1984. The event encourages neighbors to connect with one another and the agencies dedicated to keeping them safe.

A Moment to Connect

According to Sergeant Khadijah Gaskins, who is helping organize this year’s event, this gathering presents an excellent opportunity for families and children to engage positively with local law enforcement and community services. “My favorite part is seeing children and families having fun and interacting with community groups,” Gaskins said.

Who Will Be Involved?

Local agencies participating this year include:

  • Newberry Police Department
  • Newberry County Sheriff’s Office
  • Newberry County EMS
  • Newberry Fire Department
  • Newberry County Rescue Squad Station 14
  • Freedom Baptist Church and Epting Memorial Church
  • South Carolina State Transport Police
  • Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism
  • Newberry County DSS
  • Newberry Housing Authority
  • Newberry County Animal Control

These local agencies work together to promote safety and create a supportive environment for the community.

Fun & Activities for Everyone

Attendees of National Night Out can look forward to a variety of fun activities. There will be two bounce houses, interactive games provided by the Newberry Parks and Recreation department, and a 360-degree photo booth. Popular snacks like pizza and popcorn will be available free of charge.

To add to the atmosphere, DJ Glee will provide music and entertainment throughout the evening. Additionally, children will have the chance to collect “buddy cards” from local agencies, which they can use to participate in a special event — the annual ping-pong ball drop that typically wraps up the night.

Community Support

Police Chief Kevin Goodman emphasized the importance of such events. “National Night Out is a great opportunity for the police and the community to come together in a positive environment,” he noted. Goodman believes that these moments help to solidify the bond between law enforcement and the residents they serve.

Looking Forward

As of now, the availability of a shuttle service for community transportation to the event is still uncertain. However, if a shuttle is secured, information will be announced on the City of Newberry’s National Night Out event page on social media. Residents interested in updates are encouraged to contact the Newberry Police Department at 803-321-1010.

National Night Out promises to be an engaging and heartwarming evening for the Newberry community. Mark your calendars and join your neighbors and local law enforcement for a night of fun, food, and strong community connections.
