Newberry Prepares for Annual National Night Out Event on August 6 Promoting Community-Spirit and Police-Community Partnerships

Newberry Gears Up for National Night Out on August 6

NEWBERRY — Neighborhoods throughout Newberry County are getting ready for the upcoming National Night Out, scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, from 6-8 p.m. The event will take place at Mollohon Park, located at 211 Player Street in Newberry. This annual community-building campaign aims to foster strong relationships between local communities and law enforcement.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that encourages community spirit and police-community partnerships. It has been celebrated for 41 years across the country and promotes the idea that together, communities can become safer and more caring places. In Newberry, the event has been held annually since 2011.

Who Will Be Involved?

This year’s event will see participation from several local agencies, including:

  • Newberry Police Department
  • Newberry County Sheriff’s Office
  • Newberry County EMS
  • Newberry County Coroner’s Office
  • Newberry Fire Department
  • Newberry County Rescue Squad Station 14
  • ServPro of Newberry
  • Groups from Freedom Baptist Church and Epting Memorial Church
  • South Carolina State Transport Police
  • Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism
  • Newberry County DSS
  • Newberry Housing Authority
  • Newberry County Animal Control

Activities and Attractions

Numerous fun activities are planned for attendees. Children can look forward to classic carnival games, along with two bounce houses and a 360-degree photo booth. There will also be opportunities to enjoy delicious pizza and popcorn, courtesy of ServPro of Newberry, all offered free of charge.

To provide entertainment throughout the evening, DJ Glee will set the mood with some lively music, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Children can earn “buddy cards” that they can collect by interacting with various local agencies. These cards will allow them to participate in the much-anticipated ping-pong ball drop, which usually happens at the end of the night, followed by closing remarks from local officials.

Strengthening Relationships

Sergeant Khadijah Gaskins, who is organizing this year’s event, expressed her excitement for the community interactions that come from National Night Out. “My favorite part of this event is seeing children and families interact with community groups,” said Gaskins. These moments contribute to the larger goal of building a strong neighborhood spirit and enhancing police-community relationships.

Police Chief Kevin Goodman also echoes this sentiment, viewing the event as a great opportunity for the police department and the community to connect in a positive way. It allows everyone to enjoy each other’s company while reinforcing their ties to one another.

Transportation Information

As of now, there is uncertainty over whether a shuttle service will be available for transportation to the event. However, if arrangements for a shuttle are made, updates will be posted on the City of Newberry’s National Night Out event page on Facebook. Interested individuals can also reach out to the Newberry Police Department at 803-321-1010 for the latest information.

Get Involved

Residents of Newberry County are encouraged to participate in this meaningful event on August 6. National Night Out is not just an opportunity to meet local law enforcement but also a chance to come together as a community and make Newberry a safer and more connected place to live. Mark your calendars and prepare for an evening filled with fun, food, and community spirit!
