National Night Out Event Scheduled for August 6 in Newberry, Aims to Strengthen Police-Community Bonds

National Night Out Set for August 6 in Newberry

NEWBERRY — Communities across Newberry County are gearing up for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6. This popular event will be held at Mollohon Park, located at 211 Player Street, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It’s a time for residents to unite and connect with each other as well as law enforcement in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

National Night Out is all about fostering better relationships between neighborhoods and local police departments. The initiative encourages community members and law enforcement to come together, meet face to face, and discuss ways to keep their neighborhoods safe and caring. This year marks the 41st annual celebration nationwide, and Newberry has hosted its own version since 2011.

Community Involvement

A variety of local agencies will take part in this year’s event. Residents will have the chance to meet representatives from the Newberry Police Department, Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, Newberry County EMS, and Newberry Fire Department. Other participating entities include the Newberry County Coroner’s Office, the Newberry County Rescue Squad Station 14, and various community groups, including those linked to Freedom Baptist Church and Epting Memorial Church. Also joining in are the South Carolina State Transport Police, Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Newberry County DSS, Newberry Housing Authority, and Newberry County Animal Control.

Fun Activities for All Ages

This year’s event promises plenty of activities for families and children. Popular features will include two bounce houses, organized games with the Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism department, and a 360-degree photo booth for capturing memories. For those attending, a delicious spread of pizza will be provided at no cost, along with popcorn courtesy of ServPro of Newberry. Additionally, DJ Glee will be on hand to keep the energy high with music and entertainment.

One exciting highlight is the return of Buddy cards. Children can get these cards signed by local agencies to participate in the annual ping-pong ball drop at the end of the event. This fun activity usually wraps up the night with some closing remarks from organizers.

A Chance to Connect

Property that police-community partnerships are crucial for making neighborhoods feel safe, Police Chief Kevin Goodman expressed that events like National Night Out are a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy each other’s company and strengthen their bonds. He emphasized the importance of being together in a positive environment.

Transportation Information

As for transportation, it’s still unclear if there will be a shuttle service available for attendees. Khadijah Gaskins, who is organizing the event, suggests checking the City of Newberry’s National Night Out Facebook event page for any updates on potential shuttles. Community members can also contact the Newberry Police Department at 803-321-1010 to get the latest information regarding transportation options as the date approaches.

This year’s National Night Out event is expected to bring out many community members for a night of fun, games, and important interaction with local law enforcement. Everyone in Newberry County is encouraged to join in and make the most of this opportunity to come together and create a stronger, safer community.
