Newberry Academy Eagles End 25-Year Playoff Drought with Dominant Victory

Newberry Academy Eagles Make Playoff Return After 25 Years

Welcome to Spartanburg, S.C., where exciting news is buzzing around as the Newberry Academy Eagles have made their way into the playoffs for the first time in 25 years! After a challenging season, the Eagles concluded their regular season with a stunning victory against Oakbrook Prep, sealing the game with a score of 44-6 on the road. It’s an achievement that’s been a long time coming!

Game Highlights

The matchup transpired on Friday night, November 1st, and it was a game to remember! Earlier in the season, back on September 20th, the Eagles had a nail-biter against the same team, narrowly escaping with a win. However, this time around, there was no suspense. The Eagles displayed pure dominance on the field, showcasing their skills and team spirit.

Javon Conway had an exceptional performance, carrying the ball 20 times for 194 rushing yards and crossing the end zone three times! What a fantastic way to lead the team! Thomas McLean also contributed significantly, adding 64 rushing yards to the scoreboard along with two rushing touchdowns. And let’s not forget about Emory Pye, who made crucial catches, including a lovely touchdown reception of 57 yards.

But it wasn’t just the offense that shined. The Eagles’ defense was equally fierce, with Jody Ray Miles having a standout game, recording a sack and three tackles for loss. The defense also played a critical role in securing two turnovers, one of which was an interception by Jackson Montgomery.

Coaching Triumph

Head Coach Rich Doran couldn’t contain his pride after the game. “I am proud of the guys for the way they fought this season and kept showing up. It hasn’t been all roses, but we are finally in the playoffs after a very long time. We played this team on homecoming and barely won it. We played much better and dominated the entire game. Proud of our guys,” he shared.

Looking Ahead

With this impressive victory, the Eagles have secured their spot in the playoffs and are set to face off against Richard Winn on Friday, November 8th. The atmosphere is charged with excitement as fans eagerly await this next chapter of their season. The team’s journey has captured the hearts of the community, and everyone is rallying behind them as they aim to continue their playoff dream.

It’s been quite the journey for the Eagles, and it’s making a joyful return to the playoffs even sweeter. As they prepare for this pivotal game, the entire town of Newberry is buzzing with anticipation. Fingers crossed for another great performance from the Eagles!

Go Eagles!
