Newberry Academy Eagles Capture Exciting 11-9 Win on Senior Night

Newberry Academy Eagles Soar to Victory on Senior Night

Newberry, SC – What a fantastic afternoon it was at Newberry Academy as the Eagles took on the King Academy Knights in a thrilling baseball game that had everyone cheering. The game was particularly special as it was Senior Night, and the Eagles pulled off an exciting 11-9 victory to secure their spot in second place in the SCISA A Region IV standings.

A Rocky Start but Strong Finish

Initially, things didn’t look great for Newberry. The team started a little shaky, which had fans a bit anxious. However, the Eagles quickly turned the tide and showcased their resilience. Head coach Ronnie Bannister has emphasized a straightforward approach throughout the season, sticking with essentials like “good at bats, getting base runners, and pitching well.” This formula clearly worked wonders because, just as the coach predicted back in December, the team has maintained impressive performances in recent months.

This win marked the third time this season that the Eagles have scored 10 or more runs in a game. It’s evident that the team is playing fantastic baseball and is fully committed to Coach Bannister’s system. “When we came out here, I really didn’t know what we had, but I knew we had some good kids. Talent-wise, I didn’t have a clue,” admitted Bannister. His faith in the players paid off as they began to believe in their skills and capabilities.

The Pitching and Hitting Stars

What’s especially noteworthy is the Eagles’ pitching lineup. Coach Bannister is confident in using four pitchers, each showing remarkable skill on the mound. “I really think we got a shot at this,” he shared, hinting at aspirations for the championship. The overall collective effort on the field, from pitching to hitting, has really come together, making the Eagles a formidable team in their region.

During the match against King Academy, Bannister pointed out the success of the batting order, particularly praising the bottom of the lineup. “I tell these guys all the time that if our bottom of the order gets on base, then no one can beat us,” he noted. And that’s exactly what happened! The eighth and ninth hitters stepped up when it mattered most, executing strategic plays such as a successful bunt and a blooper single, allowing for their return to the top of the order just when they needed it.

Celebrating Seniors

To add to the excitement of the win, the Eagles celebrated their six seniors: Jackson Montgomery, Wyatt Wilson, Josh Joyner, Justin Smith, Tyler Dorsey, and Hunter Piersol. The seniors not only showcased their skills on the field but also brought some humor to the occasion by doing impressions of Coach Bannister. Those light-hearted moments were captured and shared, adding a personal touch to the evening’s festivities.

What’s Next for the Eagles?

Looking ahead, the Eagles have a golden opportunity to clinch the region championship! They are set to face off against Richard Winn this Friday, April 19, right at home. With the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m., the Eagles are all geared up to bring in another impressive win.

As the community rallies behind the Newberry Academy Eagles, there’s a palpable sense of enthusiasm in the air for what lies ahead. Let’s come out to support our team and celebrate their journey as they continue to make us proud!
