NEWBERRY — The much-anticipated Homecoming Weekend at Newberry College is just around the corner, set for November 2. The campus is bustling with excitement as students and alumni prepare for one of the school’s most cherished traditions, which brings together graduates, students, and the surrounding community for a whirlwind of fun and nostalgia. With a vibrant mix of spirited competitions, reunions, and engaging activities, this year’s celebration is sure to be unforgettable.
During Homecoming, the campus transforms into a lively hub, featuring enticing food trucks, thrilling sports events, games, and plenty of chances to reconnect and create lasting memories. The event promises to engage not just the students but also the residents of Newberry, fostering a sense of community that is truly special.
We decided to get the scoop from a few students about what Homecoming means to them and what they’re looking forward to this year.
We caught up with Renee Dorval and Sofiia Shaparenko, two international students from Belgium and Ukraine, respectively. Renee, a sophomore who attended her first Homecoming last year, shared her enthusiasm, stating, “In my first year, I did not expect Homecoming to be such a big event at the College. I was impressed with how the Homecoming King and Queen worked, and I think it was so much fun! The atmosphere at the football game was electric, with so many fans cheering for the Wolves. It was a unique experience that I had never encountered before.”
Sofiia, a freshman who is about to experience her first Homecoming, expressed her excitement, saying, “We have something similar back in Ukraine, but our activities are quite different. I can’t wait to see how special this Homecoming will be! I’ve heard that the football game is great and full of energy.”
We also talked with Brayden Martinez, a junior student-athlete from Owatonna, Minnesota. Brayden shared his fond memories of Homecoming, particularly during his freshman year. “I love the festivities around campus and participating in all the activities with my friends. My favorite Homecoming was my first one. The soccer team had an off weekend, so my friends and I soaked in the football game. The stadium was packed, and the atmosphere was amazing! It’s a fantastic weekend filled with fun activities, and I can’t imagine spending it any other way than surrounded by my friends,” he reminisced.
This festive atmosphere at Newberry College is a cherished aspect for students, bringing everyone together for a weekend of bonding, celebration, and pure joy. As the College prepares to welcome back its alumni, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the strong connections fostered during their time here.
Homecoming is not just about fun; it’s a celebration that honors the past while sparking excitement for the future. Current students are inspired to carry on the legacy of those who came before them, building lasting memories they will cherish as alumni themselves.
This year, why not join in the fun? Whether you are a current student, an alum, or a proud community member, the Newberry College Homecoming promises an unforgettable experience filled with pride, spirit, and camaraderie.
