Hey there, volleyball fans! Today, we’re diving into the thrilling world of Newberry College volleyball, where the Wolves are gearing up for an exciting return to their home court on October 22 at 6:00 p.m. They’ll be taking on the Carson-Newman Eagles, and it promises to be quite a showdown!

Recent Match Recap

Before we look ahead to the upcoming match, let’s take a moment to reflect on the Wolves’ recent game against UVA Wise. Unfortunately, it was a tough day for the Wolves, who are currently sitting at a record of 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). They faced off against a competitive UVA Wise team, who headed into the match with a record of 9-9 overall and 3-6 in SAC.

The game on October 19 saw the Wolves jump out to a promising start. With some impressive kills from Anna Hapner and Samantha Shaffer, the team quickly found themselves ahead, leading 5-1 right off the bat. Their momentum continued with assists from Annie Dill, helping the Wolves stretch their lead to 14-9.

However, the Cavaliers were not going to let the Wolves have an easy ride. With some powerful plays and a decisive 7-2 run, UVA Wise narrowed the gap and put the pressure back on Newberry. Despite leading at one point 22-19, the Wolves couldn’t hold off the Cavaliers, who ended up taking the first set 25-23.

Struggles in Set Two

Set two began with the Cavalier’s offense firing on all cylinders, as they rushed to an 8-1 lead. The Wolves made an effort to catch up, with Giovanna Ravanhani and Emma Christensen landing some much-needed kills to bring the score closer at 10-6. However, UVA Wise maintained their composure and steadily increased their lead to 17-10.

Despite the Wolves’ best efforts, including a couple of powerful kills from Anna Schneider, the Cavaliers once again prevailed, winning the second set decisively at 25-15.

A Hopeful Finale

The final set kicked off with both teams matching each other point for point. The score was tied at 5-5 before the Wolves took the lead at 12-10, thanks to a decisive kill from Shaffer. It seemed like the Wolves might make a comeback, but UVA Wise had other plans. They went on an impressive 8-1 run to secure an 18-13 lead.

Even though the Wolves fought valiantly, they couldn’t close the gap in the end, losing the final set 25-21. While it wasn’t the outcome they were hoping for, there were definitely moments of brilliance from the team!

Looking Ahead to Carson-Newman

Despite the setback, spirits remain high as the Wolves prepare to take on Carson-Newman. This home match is a perfect opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and bounce back from their recent defeat.
